When condensation appears between the panes of a double glazed window, the sealed unit has failed. The glass looks permanently cloudy, the view is ruined and the window no longer insulates the room the way it should.

Why sealed units fail
Every double glazed unit is built from two panes of glass separated by a spacer bar and filled with insulating gas. A perimeter seal holds that cavity airtight. Over the years, weather exposure, thermal movement and gradual frame settlement wear that seal down.
Once the seal is broken, moist air gets into the cavity and condenses on the inner faces of the glass. Nothing can be cleaned or dried out from inside or outside, because the moisture is sealed between the panes. Replacing the unit is the only genuine fix.
How we replace a failed unit
- We measure the failed unit and check the frame, beading and drainage
- We inspect and measure the unit before giving you a clear, free quotation
- New units are made to size in the correct thickness, gas fill and pattern
- We remove the old unit, clean out the rebate and renew the glazing packers
- The new unit is bedded, beaded and tested, and the old glass is taken away
Upgrade while the glass is out
A failed unit is a good moment to improve the glass rather than simply match it. We can fit low emissivity energy efficient glass to warm a cold room, toughened or laminated safety glass where building regulations require it, obscure patterns for bathrooms and side panels, or acoustic glass on a busy road.

Frequently asked
Do I need new windows if the glass is misted?
Almost never. If the frame, hinges and locks are sound, only the sealed glass unit needs replacing, which keeps the cost far lower than a new window.
How long does a replacement take?
Once the made to measure unit has arrived, most single units are swapped in well under an hour, and a full house of units is usually completed in one visit.
Is there a guarantee on the new unit?
Yes. New sealed units come with a manufacturer backed guarantee and our own workmanship guarantee on the fitting.
Can misted glass be drilled and dried out instead?
We do not recommend it. Drilling and venting a failed unit leaves the cavity open to the air, so the misting returns and the insulating gas is gone for good. Replacing the sealed unit is the only lasting fix.
Will one misted window mean the rest will fail too?
Not necessarily, although units fitted at the same time do tend to fail within a few years of each other. When we inspect one window we check the others and tell you honestly which look sound.
Do you have to take the frame out to replace the glass?
No. The glazing beads are removed, the failed unit lifts out and the new made to measure unit goes into the same frame, so your windows stay exactly where they are.
