Safe make safe, then a permanent repair

Our first job is to make the property safe. Loose and broken glass is removed and disposed of, and the opening is boarded or temporarily glazed so the house is secure and dry.

We then measure the opening precisely, order the correct specification of glass and return to complete a permanent repair, cleaning up fully as we go.

Meeting building regulations

Glazing in doors, in side panels next to doors and in low level windows must be safety glass under current building regulations. We specify the correct toughened or laminated glass for the position rather than simply matching what was there before, which matters for insurance as much as for safety.

Insurance and landlord work

We regularly carry out glazing repairs following break ins, storm damage and accidental breakage. We can provide itemised invoices and written descriptions of the damage and the work carried out for insurance claims.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can you replace just one pane in a large window?

Yes. Sealed units are replaced individually, so only the damaged pane needs changing.

How quickly can broken glass be made safe?

Usually the same day, and out of hours where the property is insecure. Call as soon as the damage happens and we will advise on timings.

Do you take the broken glass away?

Yes, all old and broken glass is removed and disposed of responsibly as part of the job.

What happens if the new glass cannot come the same day?

We make the opening safe and secure first, by clearing the broken glass and boarding or temporarily glazing it, then return with the made to measure unit to finish the job.

Can you match patterned or leaded glass?

In most cases yes. Obscure patterns, Georgian bar and leaded style units can be remade so the repair is not obvious from the street.

Does glass next to a door have to be safety glass?

Yes. Glazing in doors, in side panels beside doors and in low level windows must be toughened or laminated safety glass under current building regulations, and we specify to that standard.

Misted and Failed Units

When condensation appears between the panes of a double glazed window, the sealed unit has failed. The glass looks permanently cloudy, the view is ruined and the window no longer insulates the room the way it should.

Double Glazing Repairs

Double glazing is made up of parts that can often be repaired individually, yet homeowners are frequently quoted for whole new windows when a single component has failed. Repairs are at the heart of our business, and we only recommend replacement windows when a sound repair is no longer possible.
