uPVC Door Panel Replacement in Newcastle

Many uPVC doors are made from a frame with a separate infill panel sitting inside it, held in by beads in the same way as a pane of glass. When that panel is cracked, kicked in, faded or blown, the panel can often be changed while the door, hinges and lock stay where they are.

uPVC door panel replacement is part of our door repairs work across Newcastle and the North East. We look at the door first and only suggest a new panel where the frame is worth keeping.

When a panel is worth replacing

  • The panel is cracked, split or punched through
  • The surface has blistered, bowed or come apart
  • It has faded badly next to the rest of the door
  • A glazed section has been broken or misted
  • The panel rattles or has worked loose in the beads
  • You want a different panel style in the same frame

How door infill panels work

An infill panel is a sandwich of rigid board between two outer skins, cut to fit the opening in the door sash. Some are plain, some are moulded, and many have a glazed section built in. The panel is held by internal beads and gaskets, so it can be taken out without cutting into the door itself.

That is why a panel can be replaced on its own. Where a door is a single solid slab, as many composite doors are, there is no separate panel to change and the options are different. Those doors are covered on composite door repairs.

Measuring and matching

Panels are made to the size of the opening and the thickness of the door, so we measure both on site. We note the panel style, the colour on each face and whether it includes glass. Some designs are still widely available; others are no longer made, and in those cases we discuss the closest match or a plain panel that suits the door.

Doors with a glazed panel can often keep their existing look with a new unit. If only the glass in the panel has failed, our door glass replacement page covers that job separately, which is usually simpler than changing the whole panel.

Panel damage after a break in

Kicked or forced panels are a common reason for this job. If the door cannot be made secure, we can board it until the new panel is ready; see emergency repairs. Once the panel is in, we check the lock and hinges too, because a forced door often has a bent keep or strained mechanism as well.

Panel or whole door?

We are a repair first business, so if the frame, hinges and lock are sound a panel is usually the sensible fix. If the frame itself is twisted or split, a new panel will not help, and we will say so. Most other faults on plastic doors, such as dropping, catching and locking problems, are covered by uPVC door repairs.

Getting a quote

The price depends on the panel size, style, colour and whether it contains glass. A photo of the whole door from outside, plus a close photo of the damage, helps us check which panel type you have. We confirm the price at a free in-person quote. To arrange it, request a quote or call us.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can you replace just the panel on a uPVC door?

Yes, where the door uses a separate infill panel held in by beads. The frame, hinges and lock stay in place. Solid slab doors do not have a removable panel.

How do I know if my door has a removable panel?

Look for beads around the inside edge of the panel, like those around a pane of glass. A photo of the inside of the door is usually enough for us to tell.

Can a new panel match my existing door?

Many styles and colours are still available. Where the original design is no longer made, we suggest the closest option before ordering anything.

Can a solid panel be swapped for one with glass?

Often it can, as long as the replacement panel is made for the same opening size and door thickness. We check this when we measure.
