Locksmith in Newcastle for uPVC and Composite Doors
When a key snaps in the lock or a uPVC door refuses to open, you need someone who understands both the lock and the door around it. Many lock problems on modern doors are really door problems, and fixing one without the other just brings the fault back.
Our locksmith service in Newcastle focuses on uPVC and composite door locks: cylinders, multipoint mechanisms, gearboxes, handles and lockouts. It is part of our hinges, locks and handles work, with standard hours of 8am to 5pm and a 24 hour emergency call out.

Lock problems we deal with
- Key snapped in the lock
- Locked out with a uPVC or composite door that will not open
- Key will not turn or will not come out
- Handle lifts but the door will not lock
- Lock damaged after an attempted break in
- Cylinders changed after lost keys or a move
Key snapped in the lock
A snapped key usually leaves part of the blade inside the cylinder. Pushing at it or trying glue tends to push it further in. If the door is shut and locked, leave it and call; if the door is open, keep it open so you are not locked out while you wait.
We remove the broken piece and check the cylinder. Often the cylinder was the reason the key snapped in the first place, because a worn or stiff cylinder puts extra strain on the key. In that case we fit a new one, and an anti snap lock upgrade is worth considering at the same time.
Locked out with a uPVC door
Being locked out of a uPVC door is usually caused by one of three things: a lost or broken key, a cylinder that will not turn, or a mechanism that has failed in the locked position. Each needs a different approach, and we aim to get the door open with as little damage as possible.
Once the door is open we find out why it happened. If the gearbox has broken, we replace it so the problem does not repeat. Our guide to a uPVC door that will not open explains what to check before you call.
Emergency locksmith calls
Our 24 hour emergency call out is there for properties that cannot be secured, such as a door forced in a break in or a lock that has failed with the door open. If we cannot make a permanent repair straight away, we make the property safe first. For broken glass and boarding, see emergency repairs.
Changing and upgrading locks
After a house move, lost keys or a break in, many people want the cylinders changed. A euro cylinder can be replaced without touching the rest of the lock, and it is a good moment to fit a more secure cylinder. Where the mechanism inside the door has worn out, uPVC door lock replacement covers the full multipoint lock.
Covering Newcastle and nearby

Questions
Frequently asked
How much does a locksmith cost?
It depends on the problem rather than a call out fee alone. Whether the door is locked or open, whether a key has broken inside, which parts need replacing and the type of cylinder all affect the price. The uPVC door lock replacement cost guide explains these factors, and we confirm the price before starting.
Can you open a uPVC door without damaging it?
In many cases, yes. The method depends on why the door is locked. Where a mechanism has failed inside the door, some parts may need replacing once it is open.
Should I try to get a snapped key out myself?
Only if part of the key is sticking out and comes free easily. Pushing or gluing it usually makes things worse and can damage the cylinder.
Do you work on doors other than uPVC and composite?
Our locksmith work focuses on uPVC and composite door locks. We also repair locks on timber and aluminium doors as part of our wider door repairs.
