Replacement Windows in Newcastle Only When Repair Is Not Possible

Most companies who arrive to look at a tired window are hoping to sell you a new one. We are a repair business first, so the conversation starts the other way round. We look for the repair, and we only quote for a replacement window when the original genuinely cannot be saved.

That does happen. A frame can rot, distort or crack beyond sensible repair, and parts for a handful of very old systems have run out. When that is the honest answer we will say so, fit the replacement and leave the rest of your windows alone.

How we decide between repair and replacement

  • Misted or blown glass with a sound frame, which means glass only
  • Stiff, dropped or draughty windows, which usually means hardware or seals
  • Frames that have rotted, cracked or distorted beyond repair
  • Systems where the original parts are no longer made
  • Damage after a break in, assessed for security first
  • Anything we can repair now and revisit later if you prefer

Replacement windows in Newcastle

Most of the windows we are asked to look at in Newcastle can be repaired, and that is always where we start. Across the city's Tyneside flats, terraces and estates, the frames we do replace tend to be warped, split or rotten beyond saving, or older systems for which parts can no longer be found. When that happens we measure and supply a replacement for that opening alone, leaving the windows that are still sound exactly where they are. You get an honest view of whether a repair is possible before replacement is mentioned, and the quotation is free and given in person. Our West Denton and Heaton pages describe the local work we do at either end of the city.

Why we lead with repair

Replacing an opening includes its frame, glazing, operating parts and installation. That is a much greater expense than a targeted repair to a sound existing assembly. Renewing failed glass or worn hardware can instead keep an otherwise usable window in service for years.

Because repair is our main trade across Newcastle and the North East, we know how much life is left in a frame that another firm has already written off. Checking that first costs you a free in-person quotation and nothing else.

What we replace, and what we leave alone

Where the glass has failed but the frame, hinges and locks are sound, only the sealed unit is replaced and your frames, cills and internal finishes stay exactly where they are. Where the frame itself has gone, we replace that window.

We do not treat one failed window as a reason to quote for the whole house. If one opening needs replacing and the rest need servicing, that is what we will tell you.

The quotation you actually get

Quotations are free and given in person, because a window that looks beyond repair from the pavement often is not, and a window that looks fine can hide a rotten section. Clear photographs can sometimes help us give an initial estimate before we attend.

You get one price, the reason behind it and no pressure either way. We would rather carry out a repair today and be the people you call in five years than sell you glazing you did not need.

Insured replacement work

Replacement work is carried out under the same £1m liability insurance as our repairs.

What window replacement involves

Where a frame genuinely cannot be repaired, replacement involves measuring the opening, ordering a new window to size, removing the old frame, fitting the new one level and square, and sealing it inside and out. For broken window replacement where only the glass has broken, a new pane or sealed unit is usually all that is needed.

For uPVC windows in Newcastle, we still check whether the old window can be saved first. For what affects the price, see our replacement windows cost guide.

Questions

Frequently asked

Are you a repair company or a window installer?

A repair company. We fit replacement windows as well, but only when a window genuinely cannot be repaired, and we will never recommend or upsell a replacement unless it is absolutely necessary.

My other quote said the whole window needs replacing. Is that likely?

Often it is not. If the frame, hinges and locks are sound, misted glass is a sealed unit swap and a stiff or draughty window is usually hardware and seals.

When does a window really need replacing?

When the frame has rotted, cracked or distorted beyond sensible repair, or when the parts for a very old system are no longer made.

Will you quote for the whole house?

Only if the whole house needs it. If one window is beyond repair and the others can be serviced, we quote for the one and service the rest.

Do you charge for the assessment?

No. In-person quotations are free, and clear photographs can sometimes help us provide an initial estimate first.

Which areas do you fit replacements in?

The same areas we repair in, across Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and County Durham.

What does window replacement involve?

Measuring, making the new window to size, removing the old frame, fitting the new one level and square, and sealing it inside and out.

When is replacement better than repair?

When the frame itself is rotten, split, warped or no longer secure. Glass, hinges, locks and seals can usually be repaired.

Can you replace just one window?

Yes. A single window can be replaced where needed, while the others stay as they are.
